Baku, Amman strengthen bilateral relations with new cooperation accords

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, has met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, to discuss bilateral relations between the two nations.

The meeting focused on the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan-Jordan relations across political, economic, trade, humanitarian and other areas of cooperation, as well as regional and international issues on the agenda, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a post on X, Caliber.Az reports.

“The parties stressed the importance of expanding the bilateral legal framework, as well as making more effective use of the Azerbaijan-Jordan Joint Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation to ensure a more systematic development of bilateral cooperation.

Within the framework of the visit, the Ministers signed the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on the Mutual Exemption from Visa Requirements for Holders of Ordinary Passports and the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Cooperation in the Field of Energy.

The Ministers also reviewed cooperation within multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), expressing satisfaction with the partnership based on mutual trust and support.

During the discussion on regional issues, the Ministers reviewed the security situation in the Middle East. They emphasized that the current crisis can only be resolved through political and diplomatic means and expressed support for the ongoing dialogue and negotiation process.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed his counterpart in detail on the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, including the agreements reached during the historic Washington Summit held in August last year, as well as the current state of the peace process.

The Ministers also exchanged views on the large-scale reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts being carried out in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, the return of former internally displaced persons to their ancestral homes, and the challenges posed by the landmine threat,” the post noted.
