Azerbaijan, Jordan call for diplomatic resolution of Iran-related tensions
Azerbaijan and Jordan have called for a peaceful and exclusively diplomatic resolution of tensions surrounding Iran, while reaffirming their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
Addressing a joint briefing in Baku alongside Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, said the situation in the Middle East, as well as ongoing conflicts and regional tensions, remains a source of concern.
“We expressed a common view on the need to preserve stability under the current circumstances, particularly regarding Iran, and to resolve the conflict exclusively through diplomatic means. Both countries are ready to take the necessary steps in this context,” he stated.
The Azerbaijani foreign minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening economic ties between the two countries, announcing that an Azerbaijani economic delegation is expected to visit Jordan in the near future to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation.
According to Bayramov, his talks with Safadi focused on the current state of economic relations and opportunities for their further development.
“There is significant potential for expanding economic cooperation. We believe it is necessary to explore possible investment projects in both countries, and we have the opportunities to do so,” the minister stressed.
Bayramov noted that another round of political consultations had recently been held between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Jordan. He added that both the one-on-one meeting and the expanded-format talks covered the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation.
“We noted with satisfaction the high level of bilateral relations. It was particularly emphasised that these relations are built on the close and sincere contacts between the leaders of our two countries. Cooperation between our foreign ministries is also at a high level,” he said.
The minister further announced that the two sides signed two important agreements on July 8.
“Taking this opportunity, we signed two important agreements today. I am confident that in the near future we will witness the signing of additional documents covering various areas of cooperation,” Bayramov said.
