Azerbaijan expresses condolences to Indonesia over deadly earthquakes

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has expressed condolences to Indonesia following earthquakes that claimed the lives of 47 people, according to a statement published on the ministry’s X account.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of the devastating earthquake in Indonesia, which resulted in loss of life and injuries.

We extend deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. 

Our thoughts are with the people and Government of Indonesia during this difficult time,” the ministry said in the post

The powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the north coast of Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara province on August 15 2026, with its epicenter about 68 km north-northwest of Ende at a relatively shallow depth of around 10 km. 

It triggered landslides that blocked roads, damaged or destroyed hundreds of homes and public facilities including schools and health centers, and forced thousands of residents into temporary shelters, while a brief tsunami warning was issued and later lifted after only minor waves were recorded. 

Rescue operations continue amid aftershocks as teams search rubble and remote areas for additional victims.
