Ukraine’s envoy commends Azerbaijani president, people for standing with Irpin
Ukrainian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev has thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people for their solidarity with Ukraine and continued support for the country.
Husyev made the remarks on social media after presenting Aliyev with the Honorary Citizen of Irpin award, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“Pleased to present the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, with the Honorary Citizen of Irpin award.
“A recognition of Ukraine-Azerbaijan strong partnership, solidarity, friendship and Azerbaijan's unwavering support for Irpin. Thank you, Mr. President, and the people of Azerbaijan, for standing with Ukraine.”
Husyev noted that the decision to confer honorary citizenship of Irpin on Aliyev was adopted by the Irpin City Council on April 30, 2026.
According to the ambassador, the decision recognizes the Azerbaijani president’s personal contribution, as well as that of the Azerbaijani people, to supporting the Irpin community from the first days of the Russia-Ukraine war and following the city’s liberation from Russian occupation.
“Azerbaijan has become one of Irpin's key partners in its reconstruction. With Azerbaijan's support, the Irpin Humanitarian Lyceum 'Linguist' and the Consultative and Diagnostic Clinic have already been restored,” Husyev said.
He added that several new large-scale reconstruction projects are planned, including housing construction, the restoration of a sports school and the Central House of Culture, as well as the establishment of a modern arts centre.
Husyev stressed that the decision to grant Aliyev honorary citizenship of the Ukrainian city also reflects the close friendship and solidarity between the Ukrainian and Azerbaijani peoples.
