US extends waiver exempting Azerbaijan from Section 907 restrictions
16 August 2026 09:02
The US State Department has notified Congress that it has extended the waiver exempting Azerbaijan from restrictions imposed under Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act.
The State Department sent the relevant document to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on July 28 and to the House Foreign Affairs Committee on August 10, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Section 907, adopted in 1992, restricts the provision of US assistance to Azerbaijan. In 2001, Congress granted the US president the authority to suspend the restrictions.
Since then, US presidents have annually extended the suspension of Section 907 and notified Congress accordingly.
