Azerbaijan kept informed on progress of TRIPP project, minister says

09 July 2026 10:35

Azerbaijan has been kept informed about progress on the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) road and railway project, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.

"The project is supported by the United States. Negotiations are taking place between the US and Armenia. However, the entry and exit points on the TRIPP section are located on the territory of Azerbaijan, so our American partners keep us informed. We have been told that the process is moving forward and is currently at the document preparation stage," Bayramov said.

According to Bayramov, Azerbaijan had fulfilled all of its obligations required to complete work on the peace agreement with Armenia, local media reports.

He noted that the text had already been initialled and made public.

Bayramov reiterated Azerbaijan's position that Armenia must remove territorial claims against Azerbaijan from its Constitution before the peace agreement can be signed.

On August 8, 2025, in Washington, D.C., the President of the United States witnessed the signing of the Joint Declaration by the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan, establishing the foundation for opening transport links for domestic, bilateral and international transit. The TRIPP Implementation Framework (TIF) builds on that declaration by setting out the mechanisms for implementing the TRIPP and advancing its objectives.

The TRIPP aims to create unimpeded multimodal transit connectivity, promoting regional peace, stability and integration while respecting the sovereignty, territorial integrity and jurisdiction of the participating states. In addition to linking mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and strengthening the Trans-Caspian Trade Route, the initiative is expected to deliver mutual benefits by improving both international and domestic transport connectivity for Armenia.
