Azerbaijani MP warns of potential Armenian provocation backed by France
France may be pushing Armenia towards a military provocation against Azerbaijan, a senior Azerbaijani lawmaker has warned.
Ramid Namazov, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament’s Temporary Commission against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats, claimed during a public hearing in the Milli Majlis (parliament), Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Namazov alleged that recent actions by France in the South Caucasus suggest two potential scenarios for regional destabilisation.
"The first scenario envisions Armenia launching a military provocation against Azerbaijan with France’s support, potentially sparking a new conflict in the region," he said.
"The second involves Armenia being drawn into Western-led operations against a neighbouring country, such as Iran."
He also pointed to growing international interest in the Zangezur (Syunik) region following the Second Karabakh War. "Given that Syunik borders both Azerbaijan and Iran, foreign powers have increasingly turned their attention to the area," Namazov added.
