EU vows continued support for Azerbaijan in demining Karabakh
The European Union (EU) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Azerbaijan in its efforts to clear landmines in the liberated territories of Karabakh.
This statement was made by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Kallas emphasized that demining is a crucial task to ensure the safety and well-being of the local population, calling it "important work to save lives."
The EU has been a key partner for Azerbaijan in this regard, offering both technical and financial support to aid the country’s efforts in removing landmines and unexploded ordnance from the region.
Earlier in the day, Kallas had a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, where they discussed the expansion of cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan in new areas. The talks highlighted the EU’s ongoing engagement with Azerbaijan on regional security, economic development, and humanitarian issues.
The EU’s support for Azerbaijan comes as the country continues its efforts to rehabilitate and rebuild the liberated territories, which were heavily affected by the recent conflicts. The demining operation is expected to be a long-term initiative, and Kallas assured that the EU would remain an active partner in this process.
