UNCTAD chief commends Azerbaijan’s role in regional peace
Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), praised the peace efforts by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the opening ceremony of the Global Baku Forum.
Speaking at the forum, Grynspan noted that peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia has now lasted for seven months, with consistent steps being taken to sustain the process, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
She underlined that the international community should acknowledge Azerbaijan’s position and emphasized that the forum itself aims to prevent global fragmentation.
Grynspan also pointed to the growing number of conflicts worldwide in recent decades and their humanitarian consequences.
“Currently, the Strait of Hormuz is closed due to conflict, leaving families suffering from hunger. In countries such as Kenya and Mozambique, the number of affected people is even greater. The UN's mandate is to protect future generations from war. The United Nations is an organization that serves peace and international security. Our goal is to take effective measures, and I will work toward that,” she said.
