Azerbaijani FM highlights post-conflict progress, plans Baku Port expansion into Eurasian giant
At a joint press conference with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov outlined the country’s post-conflict recovery progress, its expanding partnership with the OSCE, and ambitious plans to transform Baku Port into a leading logistics hub across Eurasia.
Bayramov has briefed Sinirlioğlu on the ongoing restoration and reconstruction efforts in the territories liberated from Armenian occupation, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Bayramov provided a detailed update on the progress being made in rebuilding these areas, noting that residents are gradually returning to their homes, which had been abandoned during the conflict.
At the same press conference, Bayramov discussed the potential for deeper cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OSCE, especially in the context of the post-conflict restoration efforts. He stressed the unique role of the OSCE in fostering dialogue and security, particularly in regions marred by distrust and ongoing military tensions.
"The OSCE's ability to bring countries with differing views and approaches under one roof makes it an invaluable platform for resolving conflicts and preventing future ones," Bayramov noted. He emphasized that diplomacy and the creation of sustainable dialogue platforms are essential for lasting peace and stability in the region.
Turning to economic development, Bayramov also highlighted the strategic importance of Baku Port, emphasizing that it is poised to become one of Eurasia’s leading logistics and trade hubs. The port, located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and at the intersection of key markets such as China, Türkiye, Iran, and Russia, is undergoing significant developments to increase its capacity and enhance its role in regional trade.
"Work is underway to implement the Green Port concept, and Baku Port’s throughput capacity will increase from 15 million to 25 million tons in the coming years," Bayramov stated, reinforcing the critical role the port will play in Azerbaijan's economic future.
