Baku’s diplomat to Netherlands becomes official representative to OPCW PHOTO
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Mammad Ahmadzada, has officially presented his credentials to the Director-General of the OPCW, Fernando Arias.
The Azerbaijani diplomat shared the update in a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, per Caliber.Az.
In his message, Ahmadzada wrote: “I had the honour of presenting my credentials to OPCW Director-General Fernando Arias as Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representative. The ceremony included an exchange of views on areas of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OPCW.”
The OPCW, headquartered in The Hague, was established to oversee the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and to ensure the total elimination of chemical weapons across the globe. Its primary mandate is to verify the destruction of all existing chemical weapons and to put in place measures to prevent the re-emergence of such weapons in the future.
In addition to disarmament, the OPCW provides assistance and protection to its member states in the event they are threatened by or attacked with chemical weapons. It also promotes international collaboration in the advancement of peaceful chemistry, encouraging the use of chemical science and technology for non-violent purposes.
