Former Ukrainian President Yushchenko visits Alley of Martyrs in Baku
Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko visited Azerbaijan’s capital Baku, where he met President Ilham Aliyev and visited several cultural and historical sites, Ukraine’s ambassador to Azerbaijan said.
During his visit, Yushchenko paid tribute to Viktor Seryogin, a Ukrainian pilot and National Hero of Azerbaijan who was killed in 1992 during the First Karabakh War. He also visited Martyrs’ Alley, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Yushchenko toured the museum ship Surakhany, where he viewed Ukrainian audio and video heritage created as part of an initiative by Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska.
He also attended the opening of the “War Through the Lens” photo exhibition at the Ukrainian Center in Baku. The exhibition was organised jointly with the Union of Photographers of Azerbaijan.
Ukraine’s Ambassador Yuriy Husyev said Azerbaijani photographers Famil Mahmudbayli and Aziz Karimov travelled to Ukraine in 2022, documenting the aftermath of Russian strikes and the lives of Ukrainians during the war.
During his meeting with Aliyev, the sides discussed regional and global developments, ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Azerbaijan, and trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, Husyev said.
The ambassador said Yushchenko’s visit to Baku had concluded and stressed that Ukraine values Azerbaijan’s support and is interested in further strengthening relations between the two countries.
