Azerbaijani police thwart drug smuggling from Iran PHOTO
The officers of the Beylagan regional police department conducted operational measures to prevent drug trafficking on the border with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Barda regional group of the Interior Ministry's press service told Caliber.Az that during the operation, conducted by police near Akhmadli village, a resident of the district was detained. A total of more than 8 kilograms of heroin and opium and 150 tablets of methadone and tramadol with strong psychotropic properties were found and seized on him.
During preliminary questioning, the detainee said that the drugs found on him were hidden in the border village of Akhmadli, Beylagan district, through an Iranian resident nicknamed "Baba", and he had taken them from there to sell.
A criminal case has been launched, and a court has opted for pre-trial restrictions in the form of detention for the resident of Beylagan district.
