Azerbaijani speaker warns of firm response to European Parliament’s actions
The spring session of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan convened for another plenary meeting on Friday, May 1, chaired by Speaker Sahiba Gafarova.
According to local media, the agenda includes nine items, among them the ratification of the “Agreement on cooperation in the exchange of information in the enforcement of judicial acts, acts of other authorised bodies and officials.”
During the session, Gafarova said the parliament would also address what she described as the anti-Azerbaijani activities of the European Parliament.
“The Milli Majlis will also consider an issue related to the anti-Azerbaijani activities of the European Parliament,” she said.
Gafarova stated that over the past decade, the European Parliament has pursued an anti-Azerbaijani policy, adding that this trend intensified after the Second Karabakh War.
“After the Second Karabakh War, anti-Azerbaijani activities in the rhetoric of the organisation intensified even further. The intensity of provocations by the European Parliament against Azerbaijan has increased. Thirteen resolutions have been adopted against Azerbaijan. All this has revealed the criteria on which this structure operates. The Milli Majlis cannot remain silent in response to the biased activities of the European Parliament against our state and will, of course, express its resolute position on this issue,” she said.
Separately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan summoned Marijana Kujundžić, the European Union’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, on the same day. The ministry strongly condemned what it described as unfounded and biased provisions against Azerbaijan in a resolution adopted by the European Parliament on April 30 and handed the ambassador a formal note of protest.
