Baltic states condemn deadly Russian strikes on Ukraine

16 April 2026 13:35

The Baltic states have condemned a recent wave of Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian cities that left 16 people dead and dozens more injured.

Foreign ministers from Estonia and Latvia, as well as Lithuania’s ambassador to Ukraine, responded to remarks by Ukraine’s foreign minister concerning the Russian attacks carried out on April 15–16, Caliber.Az reports.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna expressed condolences to the families of those killed and injured. “This is a deliberate attack against civilians - against children. Homes and entire neighborhoods targeted with intent, not by accident. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims. Strength to all those wounded and affected. The response must be clear: more support for Ukraine, more pressure on Russia, and full accountability for these crimes,” he said.

Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže stated: “We condemn Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, killing and injuring civilians, including children. This must stop. Continuous support to Ukraine, immediate tougher sanctions on Russia, and accountability for its war crimes is what’s necessary.”

Meanwhile, Lithuanian Ambassador to Ukraine Inga Tolockiene wrote: “There is something profoundly wrong with how quickly a night like this will become “another attack.” Nearly 700 drones &missiles launched, cities across 🇺🇦 under fire, civilians killed, children among them. Every failure to act has a cost — tonight, it has names, ages & cities.”

According to the latest reports, 16 people were killed and dozens injured in the strikes on Ukrainian cities over April 15–16.
