Beijing, Moscow, and Tehran demand end to unilateral sanctions on Iran Linked to Nuclear issue
Beijing, Moscow, and Tehran have called for the removal of all unilateral sanctions, with Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu making the remarks during a meeting in Beijing on Iran's nuclear issue.
The meeting attended by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“We had an in-depth exchange of views, and we emphasise the need to end all illegal sanctions,” said Ma Zhaoxu.
The three nations—Russia, China, and Iran—reaffirmed their commitment to diplomacy and dialogue based on mutual respect as the only path to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue. China and Russia also welcomed Iran's confirmation of the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities and its commitment to not seeking nuclear weapons, Ma Zhaoxu added.
The three countries stressed the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which supports the Iran nuclear deal.
In parallel, U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Iran to resume nuclear talks, despite Tehran's firm rejection of U.S. "orders" to engage in dialogue. Trump recently sent a letter to Iranian leaders proposing negotiations, as Western concerns grow over Iran's advancing nuclear capabilities.
However, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian dismissed the overture, stating that Iran would not negotiate while under threat and rejected the idea of being dictated to by the U.S. This comes as senior diplomats from Iran, Russia, and China met in Beijing to discuss Tehran's nuclear programme, following the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal under Trump's administration.
