Poland denies talks on hosting US nuclear weapons
Poland’s Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski has denied that Warsaw is holding negotiations with the United States on deploying American nuclear warheads on Polish territory.
The deputy defence minister officially rejected any talks regarding the deployment of nuclear weapons in Poland, commenting on a Financial Times report claiming that the United States was discussing the possibility of placing nuclear weapons in more NATO member states in Europe and that Poland had allegedly expressed readiness to accept such a move.
At the same time, Zalewski said discussions are ongoing “on creating better conditions for nuclear deterrence and Poland’s important role in it.”
The Pentagon declined to comment on any such potential negotiations. US officials said they would not comment on media reports or speculation about potential deployment decisions.
“The United States and NATO continuously assess the security situation and take necessary steps to maintain a safe, effective, and reliable deterrent,” defence officials added.
