Israeli minister warns truce with Lebanon would strengthen Hezbollah
Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has criticised a potential ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, warning that such a move would be a strategic misstep and could strengthen Hezbollah, according to Israeli media reports.
Ben-Gvir described the prospect of a truce as a “serious mistake and empty dreams,” arguing that it would enable the Iran-backed group to consolidate its position.
He also directed criticism at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the Israeli leader had failed to demonstrate sufficient resolve in his dealings with US President Donald Trump.
According to Ben-Gvir, Netanyahu did not show enough firmness during discussions with Trump and was unable to say “no” in order to safeguard Israel’s sovereignty.
The minister called for an urgent meeting of the cabinet to deliberate on the issue and hold a vote on any potential agreement.
