Belgium considers NATO article 4 as Brussels Airport suspends flights over drone threat
Belgium is reportedly considering invoking Article 4 of the NATO treaty, which allows member states to consult on collective security matters, following security concerns at Brussels Airport.
Operations at the airport were suspended on the evening of November 4 after reports of drone activity, leading to widespread disruption, Caliber.Az reports, citing Belgian media.
A total of 41 flights were cancelled – 22 departures and 19 arrivals – while another 24 were diverted to alternative airports.
Air traffic control company Skeyes confirmed that by around midnight, the final seven flights were able to depart safely before the nighttime closure took effect.
Authorities have stressed the need for a rapid response to the incident, highlighting the potential security risks posed by unauthorised drones near commercial aviation operations.
