Berlin to fund Patriot missiles, joint drone production with Kyiv, says minister
Ukraine has agreed a major €4 billion defence cooperation package with Germany, including funding for Patriot missile systems and joint drone production, Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said following talks with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius.
Fedorov announced the agreement on social media after discussions with the German defence minister, outlining a series of measures aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air defence and expanding its long-range strike capabilities.
“Hundreds of missiles for Patriot, deep-strike and mid-strike drones - agreed on a new massive cooperation package with Germany for €4 billion,” he said.
“Held talks with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. Agreed a package of defense agreements with a total amount of €4 billion - to strengthen PPO, develop long-range capabilities and joint production of drones.”
According to Fedorov, three key agreements were signed during the visit.
“Germany is financing a contract for several hundred missiles to Patriot - this will significantly boost the protection of Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. It is also planned to supply 36 IRIS-T launchers, which will enhance the multi-level PPO system,” he said.
He added that the two sides had agreed on a €300 million investment to develop long-range strike capabilities.
“Deep-strike development — agreed on €300 million investment in long-range capacity, which will enable to increase the production of Ukrainian weapons.”
Fedorov also highlighted plans for joint drone production under the “Build with Ukraine” initiative.
“Within the initiative of Build with Ukraine, we launch a joint production of mid-strike drones using AI. In the first stage — 5,000 drones for the Defense Forces.”
Expressing appreciation for Germany’s support, he added: “I am grateful to Boris Pistorius for his leadership and system support. It's a win-win cooperation that strengthens the defense of Ukraine and the security of all Europe.”
As reported earlier, Germany and Ukraine have signed a new defence cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening military capabilities and coordination, as Kyiv continues to seek sustained support in its war efforts.
