Biden: US to strengthen presence in Europe
US President Joe Biden has announced a significant increase in the US presence in Europe in connection with the Russian threat.
The US president stated this during a meeting with Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the sidelines of the NATO summit, a correspondent of European Pravda reports from Madrid.
“Today I am announcing that the United States is strengthening our forces in Europe,” Joe Biden said, adding that NATO will be strengthened in all directions across every domain – land, air and sea.
He said that the United States is sending two additional destroyers to the common US-Spanish base Rota and thus the number of the US destroyers there will grow from 4 to 6.
In Poland, Biden said, the United States will establish a permanent headquarters for the U.S. Fifth Army Corps, which will help strengthen the interoperability of U.S. and NATO forces across the Alliance's eastern flank.
The US will also send two additional F-35 squadrons to Britain and beef up air defences in Germany and Italy.
Romania will host a rotational brigade of up to 3,000 fighters and 2,000 other personnel.
