Bloomberg: Germany, Austria oppose price ceiling for Russian gas
The German authorities oppose the imposition of a price ceiling on Russian gas since many European Union (EU) states are still dependent on these supplies.
The German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck made the remarks on September 9, Bloomberg reports.
“Therefore, it would be inappropriate to talk about such a measure when Germany always calls for the understanding of its problems, while other states do not get the issue in the same way,” said the minister.
Habeck said Berlin also opposes the general restriction of gas prices for all suppliers, as "it will give the wrong signal to the market".
For his part, Austrian Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology Leonore Gewessler said that Vienna also does not support the energy price ceiling initiative due to its continued dependence on Russian gas supplies.
