Bomb blast rocks Kwara State, Nigeria, raising fresh security fears
A bomb exploded early on March 23 morning in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria, sparking renewed concerns over security in the region. The number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, and authorities say there are no immediate reports of fatalities as assessments continue.
The incident follows a series of deadly attacks in nearby communities, prompting a high-level response from the Federal Government. In February, Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Kaiama LGA to offer condolences to victims of terrorist attacks in Nuku and Woro and assured residents that the government was taking steps to restore peace.
During that visit, Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to stabilizing the region, announcing the deployment of a Nigerian Army battalion alongside emergency support through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in coordination with the Kwara State government. Local authorities, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed that security forces had been mobilized under Operation Savannah Shield.
The explosion has amplified fears among residents, highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of the communities despite these interventions.
