Borrell supports Ukrainian strike inside Russia, demands enhanced air defence for Kyiv
Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, welcomed the presence of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Russia's Kursk Region.
He called it “strategic courage” and called for more air defence systems for Kyiv, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
In addition, Borrel proposed to lift all restrictions on the use of Western weapons for strikes on Russian territory.
He said this upon arriving at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, where he travelled with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
“By launching an attack inside Russian territory, Ukraine has shown great strategic courage. This is big news,” Borrell stated. He accused Russia of retaliatory strikes on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, which he said “should plunge Ukraine into darkness.”
“Air defence systems are needed by Ukraine today more than ever, and this will be the first item on our agenda,” he said.
He also called for the use of Western weapons “in full force” by lifting all restrictions.
