Brazil announces dates for pre-COP, leading to COP30 in Belém
The Presidency of COP30 announced on April 30 that the pre-COP meeting will take place on October 13-14 in Brasília, within the Federal District (DF).
This preparatory event will bring together climate negotiators and ministers to discuss key issues ahead of the COP30 climate conference, scheduled for November 10-21 in Belém, Pará, Caliber.Az reports.
Approximately 30 to 50 international delegations are expected to attend the pre-COP, with representatives from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) also invited.
Around 800 attendees, including delegates and observers, are anticipated. The specific venue for the event will be disclosed in the coming weeks.
Though the pre-COP is not part of the official UNFCCC event calendar, it plays a critical role in the series of preparatory meetings held each year leading up to the main climate summit. Other notable gatherings include the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin this March and the upcoming Copenhagen Climate Ministerial in May.
Previous pre-COP events have been hosted by countries in the lead-up to their respective COP presidencies: Azerbaijan for COP29 in Baku, the United Arab Emirates for COP28 in Abu Dhabi, Egypt for COP27 in Kinshasa, and the United Kingdom in collaboration with Italy for COP26 in Milan.
