Brazilian schools to introduce Russian language classes

Brazilian schools are set to introduce Russian as a foreign language under an agreement reached between the Ministry of Education of Russia and Brazil during an online meeting, Russia's Ministry of Education has stated.

The two sides agreed to promote the teaching of Russian as a foreign language in Brazil and incorporate it into the curricula of selected schools overseen by Brazil's education authorities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

"The parties agreed to promote Russian as a foreign language in Brazil, as well as to introduce it into the curricula of selected schools under the country's education ministry," the Russian ministry said in a statement.

The Russian side also emphasised the importance of exchanging teaching expertise.

The two ministries agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on professional development programs for educators and to send Russian teachers to schools in Brazil.

In addition, both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in advancing joint educational initiatives, including in the areas of children's recreation and wellness, as well as vocational education and training.
