Bundeswehr working on new defence plan to deter Russia

For the first time since the end of the Cold War, Germany has started to develop a defence plan, with containing Russia as one of its main points.

The plan is being developed in response to the war in Ukraine, MDR reports.

The German side wants the document to take into account modern warfare and to consider possible sabotage, cyber-attacks and disinformation coming from the Russian Federation.

The plan will also consolidate German troops' leading role in defending NATO's eastern flank.

Several experts and representatives of NATO countries will review the document in Berlin next on January 31, with the aim of finalising the plan by the end of March 2024.
