Floods in Sabah state have killed 12 people and left 12 missing, possibly swept away by torrential waters. A landslide in Kampung Cenderakasih, Kolombong, Inanam was responsible for the deaths, local authorities say.
In Sabah, 2,468 flood-affected people have been evacuated to safer areas, officials said, while in Perak, the number of evacuees has reached 397.
The updated figures show that a total of 1,648 people from 417 families are being housed in temporary evacuation centres across several Sabah districts, including Penampang, Papar, Putatan, Membakut, and Beaufort.
Additionally, the authorities reported that 146 people in Selangor state and 74 in Negeri Sembilan state were evacuated to safe areas due to flooding.
The Malaysian government will provide RM 1,000 ($236) to each evacuated household and RM 10,000 ($2,360) to families of the deceased. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also approved an additional RM 10 million ($2.36 million) in aid, in addition to the earlier RM 11 million ($2.61 million) allocated for infrastructure repairs.
