Canada urges citizens to avoid all travel to Iran
The Government of Canada has issued a renewed warning advising its citizens to avoid all travel to Iran, citing security concerns including the risk of civil unrest, arbitrary detention and unpredictable enforcement of local laws.
In a statement, Canadian authorities said tensions in the region and internal instability have heightened the risks for foreign nationals, Caliber.Az reports.
“Avoid all travel to Iran due to the risk of civil unrest, tensions in the region, the high risk of arbitrary detention and the unpredictable enforcement of local laws,” the statement said.
Ottawa also warned that Iranian authorities have detained foreign and dual nationals in the past to exert political or diplomatic pressure on their governments.
“You should leave Iran now if you can do so safely,” the government said, noting that while some airlines have suspended flights to and from Iran, commercial air travel and overland border crossings remain available.
