Car bomb attack in Syria's Manbij kills 14 women, unjures 15 PHOTO

03 February 2025 13:06

On February 3, a deadly car bomb explosion claimed the lives of 14 women and one man, all agricultural workers, while injuring 15 other women in the northern Syrian city of Manbij.

According to Syria's civil defence, the attack occurred on a main road on the city's outskirts, Caliber.Az reports, citing Syrian media.

The White Helmets, a Syrian civil defence organization, reported that the PKK/YPG terrorist group was behind the attack, detonating the bomb near a vehicle transporting the workers. This marks the eighth such terrorist attack in Manbij since its liberation from the PKK/YPG forces.

The US-backed PKK/YPG has increasingly resorted to car bombings in the city, frequently targeting civilians. The latest explosion occurred just days after another deadly attack on February 1, which left four civilians dead and nine others injured.

Manbij, located in the Aleppo countryside about 30 kilometres south of the Turkish border, has been the site of intense clashes between the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed fighters since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war. The city, lying east of the Euphrates River, remains a focal point of ongoing violence, exacerbating the suffering of its civilian population.
