On June 4, in the town of Hürth near Cologne, a vehicle struck a group of schoolchildren, resulting in injuries to two of them.
One child sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition, according to reports from the German newspaper Bild.
Local police have described the incident as an accident, stating there is currently no evidence to suggest the driver acted with intent. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision and continue to conduct inquiries at the scene.
This incident adds to a series of recent accidents involving vehicles and crowds across Europe. On May 15, a car rammed into a crowd of Espanyol football fans before a derby match against Barcelona, injuring 13 people. Fortunately, none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, and the female driver, estimated to be between 45 and 55 years old, was detained.
More recently, on May 31, a man driving a BMW at high speed crashed into a crowd of supporters celebrating Paris Saint-Germain’s victory in the Eurocup final in Grenoble, France.
Authorities are continuing to monitor these events closely as investigations proceed.
