Caucasus Muslims Office chairman to advocate for peace in Spain
On April 24, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade will travel to the Kingdom of Spain for an important diplomatic visit to participate in the roundtable discussion aiming to promote peace.
The visit comes at the invitation of Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Pashazade will participate in the inaugural event of a collaborative initiative by the UN Alliance of Civilizations and "Religions for Peace," titled "A Call for Peace, End of Wars, and Respect for International Law." The event will take place in the historic town of Guernica, Spain on April 25-26, commemorating the 88th anniversary of the tragic bombing of the town during the Spanish Civil War.
The roundtable discussion and memorial event aim to promote peace, advocate for the respect of international law, and further condemn the destructive impacts of war. Religious leaders from various faiths will join the gathering to voice their support for these critical global messages.
Earlier, the international interreligious conference "2025 Year of Islamic Peace in Belgium and Europe" was held in Brussels with prominent religious and cultural figures.
Azerbaijan was represented at the event by a delegation led by Pashazade.
As part of the conference, the Azerbaijani delegation met with Walter Beke, a member of the European Parliament and head of the Asian Countries Group, as well as Belgium’s Minister of Health. Azerbaijan’s deep-rooted multicultural traditions and its commitment to fostering interfaith harmony were highlighted at the event.
