China announces special maritime operation near Taiwan

China has announced the launch of a special maritime operation to the east of Taiwan, according to the state news agency Xinhua News Agency.

Authorities in China said the decision was taken in response to talks between Japan and the Philippines.

“China’s Ministry of Transport organized (...) the implementation of a special operation to ensure maritime traffic in the eastern waters of the island of Taiwan,” the statement said.
