China commits to leading role in Gaza peace efforts
China has pledged to actively contribute to a long-term solution for the situation in the Gaza Strip, in coordination with the international community, including Russia.
According to TASS, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified Beijing’s stance on the U.S. Board of Peace, noting that its position has already been formally expressed.
“Regarding Gaza: China will, as always, play a responsible role as a leading power and, together with the international community, make tireless efforts toward a comprehensive, fair, and sustainable resolution of the Palestinian issue in the near future,” the ministry said.
The statement reaffirmed China’s support for the “two-state solution” principle. It emphasized that any post-conflict settlement in Gaza must adhere to UN Security Council resolutions. “It is necessary to firmly uphold the principle that Palestine is governed by Palestinians, and further actions related to Gaza must respect the aspirations of the Palestinian people themselves,” the ministry added.
Regarding the U.S. Board of Peace and related initiatives, China noted that its position has already been communicated and that it had no further comments to add.
The U.S. Board of Peace was initially proposed by former President Donald Trump in September 2025 as a mechanism to oversee temporary governance arrangements in Gaza. The initiative has since expanded to address broader global conflicts and post-crisis stabilisation efforts.
The first official meeting of the Board of Peace took place in Washington on February 19, with delegations from 47 countries and representatives of the European Union in attendance. Funding for the body will come from contributions by participating states, with permanent membership reserved for countries committing at least $1 billion during the first year.
The Board of Peace is designed to combine political coordination with financial oversight tools to manage reconstruction and stabilisation programs in conflict-affected regions.
