China proposes three key steps for resolving Ukraine conflict
China has put forth three key proposals aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
During a recent meeting of the UN Security Council, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasised the urgent need for a ceasefire and the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
"China advocates for an immediate ceasefire and the initiation of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Additionally, China stresses avoiding imposing sanctions," he said.
Wang underlined that halting hostilities is essential to prevent the war from escalating. He underscored the critical nature of avoiding the use of nuclear weapons and attacks on nuclear facilities, such as power plants. “The more weapons sent into the conflict zone, the more challenging it becomes to achieve a ceasefire,” he stated.
The Chinese representative also highlighted the urgent need for dialogue and negotiations, deeming them the “only viable way” to resolve what he referred to as the “Ukrainian crisis” — a term he used for Russia's war against Ukraine. Without such discussions, he warned, the crisis is likely to worsen.
Lastly, according to the Chinese foreign minister, it is crucial to prevent the crisis from spilling over into the global economy. He elaborated on this point by calling for a cessation of sanctions and the blocking of certain areas of global trade. While he did not specify any countries, it was clear he was referencing restrictions against Russia and its supporters.
“All parties should prioritize peace and the welfare of the people and genuinely work towards facilitating peace talks,” the Chinese diplomatic chief concluded.
