China’s UN envoy says military means cannot bring peace in Ukraine

Military methods cannot bring peace in Ukraine, and the continuation of the conflict only increases casualties and destruction, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Sun Lei, has stated.

During a UN briefing on the Ukraine crisis, he said as the Ukraine crisis continues to drag on, the conflict is developing in a spiral of escalation, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“However, one truth remains unchanged: military means cannot bring peace, and the continuation of the conflict will only increase its cost,” he noted.

Sun stressed that diplomatic negotiations have recently reached an impasse, reflecting the complexity of the underlying issues and the difficulties in achieving a peaceful settlement.

He called on all sides to exercise maximum restraint, resume talks as soon as possible, take into account each other’s legitimate security concerns, and address the root causes of the crisis in line with the principles of the UN Charter.
