China seeks de-escalation of Ukrainian conflict
China has expressed hope for the de-escalation of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and emphasized its desire to avoid further military escalation.
This stance was voiced by Chinese President Xi Jinping during a meeting with French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Rio de Janeiro, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
"China hopes that the situation around the conflict will soften, and would not want the crisis to escalate or for military action to intensify," Xi said.
The Chinese president also reaffirmed China's commitment to playing a constructive role in facilitating a ceasefire and seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
"China will continue to contribute in its own way to efforts for ceasefire and conflict resolution," he added.
The G20 summit, hosted by Brazil on November 18-19, saw the participation of leaders from the 20 largest economies, as well as invited countries. A total of 42 nations attended the summit. Russia was represented at the event by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
