Norwegian troops set to return from Greenland
The personnel of the Norwegian Armed Forces are scheduled to return this week from Greenland following their brief mission to explore potential joint efforts with NATO allies in the region.
The armed forces sent two staff officers to Greenland on January 15 to begin assessing opportunities for increased cooperation on Arctic security. The officers are setv ton return as planned, Caliber.Az reports per Norwegian media.
Their deployment comes amid growing international interest in Arctic security, a focus heightened by US President Donald Trump’s theatres to annex the island. The mission is part of Norway's ongoing commitment to strengthening defence cooperation with allies, particularly as tensions in the Arctic rise.
Earlier, Germany’s Bundeswehr personnel, who had arrived in Greenland on January 16 as part of a NATO-backed security assessment, were abruptly ordered to leave on January 18. The group’s planned activities were also canceled without warning.
