China signals readiness to implement AI deals with US

China is prepared to work with the United States to implement bilateral agreements on artificial intelligence, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday, July 24, as speculation continues over a potential visit by President Xi Jinping to Washington.

“China is ready to work with the United States to effectively implement the important agreements of the leaders of the two countries in the field of artificial intelligence [technologies],” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular briefing.

Lin was responding to questions about the prospects of Xi’s possible trip to the United States but did not confirm or deny reports that the visit could begin on September 24.

“Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable strategic role in setting the direction of China-U.S. relations,” he added.

U.S. President Donald Trump previously said Xi’s visit would start on September 24, describing it as a reciprocal trip following his own visit to Beijing on May 14–15.
