China, Thailand forge stronger ties at WTO, BRICS, and APEC

China and Thailand have agreed to strengthen their collaboration at key multilateral platforms such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) and BRICS, following a visit to China by Thai Prime Minister Phetthongthan Shinawatra.

A joint statement issued after the visit emphasized the alignment between the two countries on several international issues, with both sides recognizing their shared interests and positions in global affairs, Caliber.Az reports referencing foreign media sources.

According to the statement, “Both sides believe that China and Thailand share common interests, similar positions on international affairs, and ideas, and will jointly safeguard an open, transparent, inclusive, and non-discriminatory rule-based multilateral trading system centred around the WTO.”

The statement also highlighted the intention to enhance cooperation within other multilateral forums such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), BRICS, and the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).

The two countries expressed a firm commitment to supporting the existing international order, under the leadership of the United Nations, while adhering to diplomatic norms as outlined in the UN Charter.

Both China and Thailand pledged to “jointly uphold justice and equality, promote international solidarity and cooperation, and defend common values that foster peace, development, democracy, and freedom for all people.”

Additionally, the statement reaffirmed their intent to “actively push forward WTO reform” and work toward an open, inclusive, and balanced global economy that offers mutual benefits. Both sides agreed that advancing economic globalization is essential for achieving shared growth and prosperity.
