China urges global cooperation in AI, opposes national security overreach
Chinese authorities have expressed strong support for international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), while firmly opposing the politicization of scientific and technological matters.
Guo Jiakun, the official spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, emphasized this position during a briefing, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“We actively promote the inclusive development of AI and assist developing countries in strengthening their capabilities,” Guo stated, addressing concerns raised by the US’s decision not to sign a joint statement at the AI conference in Paris.
He continued, “At the same time, we oppose the drawing of borders based on ideology, the overgeneralization of national security concepts, and the politicization of economic, trade, and scientific and technological issues.”
Guo further clarified that China “actively supports” cooperation and transformation in the AI field. He highlighted Beijing’s commitment to fostering innovative development, paying particular attention to AI security, and encouraging enterprises to engage in AI-related activities.
The international AI conference, held this week at Paris’s Grand Palais, was co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with China represented by Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing.
One of the forum's goals is to establish a fund to utilize AI for the benefit of society, with organizers expecting the fund to attract over €2.5 billion within five years.
