Latvia’s total aid to Ukraine surpasses €890 million, minister says
Latvia has contributed more than €890 million in various forms of support to Ukraine to date, Economy Minister Viktors Valainis stated on July 10.
Valainis noted that this assistance amounts to approximately 0.7% of Latvia’s gross domestic product (GDP), Caliber.Az reports, citing Latvian media.
“We must also promote understanding among other countries that Ukraine needs all necessary support for state reconstruction,” he emphasised.
From July 9 to 10, Valainis is on an official visit to Rome, Italy, where he is participating in the annual high-level conference on Ukraine’s recovery. During the visit, he will meet with local business leaders.
The main goal of the “Ukraine Recovery 2025” conference is to foster international support and investment in Ukraine’s restoration, reconstruction, reforms, and modernisation, as well as to highlight Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership. The event will focus on the support European countries provide to Ukraine and future action plans.
Representatives from Southern, Western, Central, and Eastern Europe—including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Baltic states—are attending. A Ukrainian delegation is also present.
Valainis has a scheduled bilateral meeting with Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy, Productivity, Implementation, and Simplification (New Unity party), to discuss economic cooperation with Ukraine, Latvian business involvement in Ukraine’s recovery, and Latvia’s support efforts.
During the visit, the minister will also meet with leaders of Italian companies engaged in railway construction, steel production, military manufacturing, and other local industries.
