Beijing calls on parties to uphold Lebanon’s security, sovereignty
China has protested actions threatening Lebanon’s sovereignty and security.
At a press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasised that Lebanon’s sovereignty and security must not be violated, and the safety of civilians and their property must be guaranteed, according to Chinese media.
“China calls on relevant parties to remain calm, exercise restraint, and help de-escalate the situation in the region. We hope all sides can use the temporary ceasefire agreement as an opportunity to resolve disputes and extinguish the flames of war through political and diplomatic means,” Mao stated.
On April 9, Lebanon declared a national day of mourning following massive Israeli strikes. The bombings in Beirut and other cities have killed more than 250 people.
