Community hopes for ICESCO's support in protecting Western Azerbaijan's monuments
The Western Azerbaijan Community (WAC) hopes for support from ICESCO in preserving the cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijanis on their historical lands — the territory of present-day Armenia.
Chairman of the Community, Aziz Alakbarli, made the statement during a meeting with ICESCO Director-General Salim Bin Mohammed Al-Malik in Baku, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Alakbarli emphasised that Western Azerbaijanis created a rich cultural heritage on these lands, which belongs to all of humanity.
“We are informing the international community, demanding the restoration of monuments, and striving to prevent their destruction. We expect ICESCO to join this process as well. We have previously appealed to UNESCO, but unfortunately, Armenia did not allow the monitoring of the monuments on its territory,” he said.
