Critical energy link in Russia disabled after drone attack VIDEO
On the night of October 18, the Ulyanovsk region of the Russian Federation came under a drone attack, targeting the Veshkaima substation.
The incident was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Department of the Council of National Security and Defence of Ukraine.
“Russia has lost the substation ‘Veshkaima’ (500 kV) in the Ulyanovsk region — one of the key elements of its energy system,” Kovalenko stated.
The substation played a crucial role in Russia’s power grid, providing interconnections between multiple regions and serving as a transit hub for electricity supplied from the Syzran and Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power plants to the central regions of the country.
Footage from the site shows the facility engulfed in flames, underscoring the impact of the strike on Russia’s energy infrastructure.
