Dead whale found near Denmark’s Anholt island

15 May 2026 13:17

A dead whale, estimated to be between 10 and 15 metres long, has been found near Denmark’s Anholt island.

The country’s environmental authority said the carcass was located roughly 75 metres from the coastline and is thought to have been dead for a considerable period, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

It remains uncertain whether this is the same whale referred to as Timmy in German media, which initially stranded along Germany’s Baltic Sea coast in late March and was later relocated by rescue teams around a month afterwards to the Skagerrak strait in the North Sea.

A local wildlife ranger told broadcaster TV 2 Østjylland that the animal was probably a humpback whale.

At present, officials do not intend to retrieve the carcass, although that decision could be reconsidered if it moves closer to the shoreline, according to the report.
