Deal between Syrian authorities and Druze community ends Jaramana clashes

Following a wave of violent clashes and rising ethnic tensions, an agreement has been reached in the Syrian city of Jaramana between representatives of the official Syrian authorities and the Druze community.

The talks, held amid growing concern over the security situation, aimed to halt further escalation and restore stability in the area, Caliber.Az reports, citing Al Arabiya.

The outcome of the negotiations was a de-escalation agreement that includes several key provisions:

– Restoration of rights and financial compensation for the families of those killed during the recent violence.

– A firm commitment to hold those responsible for the attacks accountable, with legal measures to be pursued against the perpetrators.

– Efforts to ensure transparent media coverage of events through official state channels and restrictions on unnecessary movement within the city to maintain order.

– Implementation of safety measures to secure travel and transportation routes between Damascus and Suwayda province, aiming to prevent further unrest and guarantee civilian mobility.

In the wake of the agreement, Syrian security forces from the Ministries of Interior and Defence were deployed to the outskirts of Jaramana. Armoured vehicles and transport units equipped with heavy machine guns were stationed in key areas. Additionally, drones operated by the Ministry of Defence were observed monitoring the city’s airspace to maintain surveillance and deter potential provocations.

In a related development, Sheikh Youssef Jarbou, the spiritual leader of the Druze community, issued a public statement condemning recent inflammatory remarks made against the Prophet Muhammad by a small group of individuals. He stressed that these statements represent only the views of those individuals and are categorically rejected by the Druze community as a whole.

Sheikh Jarbou called on all sides to reject attempts to incite sectarian conflict and urged both communities to stand united against provocations aimed at sowing division.
