Death toll from China landslide rises to 21 as rescue operation ends

Chinese authorities have completed search and rescue operations following a landslide in Tanchang County, Gansu Province, which claimed the lives of 21 people and left seven others injured, Xinhua reports.

According to municipal authorities in the city of Longnan, all injured victims have been hospitalised and are in stable condition.

The landslide struck Renzang Village in Nanhe Township on the morning of July 7. A total of 33 people were trapped under debris and mud, with rescue teams successfully pulling five survivors from the wreckage unharmed.

Emergency responders, firefighters, police officers, and other rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene immediately after the disaster.

The search and rescue operation concluded on Wednesday, July 8, after authorities completed recovery efforts at the site.
