Drone attack shuts down UAE's largest gas field
The authorities in Abu Dhabi have suspended operations at the large Shah gas field until the damage from a drone attack that caused a fire can be assessed, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to the Abu Dhabi media office, the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the Shah gas field, located about 180 kilometres southwest of Abu Dhabi, is one of the largest in the world and can produce 1.28 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day.
The press service stated that the fire has been contained and there are no casualties.
The United Arab Emirates’ energy and transport infrastructure has repeatedly been targeted by Iran throughout the conflict.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority temporarily closed the country’s airspace “amid rapidly evolving regional security developments,” state media reported on the morning of March 17.
The press office of the Emirate of Fujairah said an “advanced fire” broke out on March 16 in the oil production industrial zone of Fujairah in the UAE following a drone attack.
