Drones strike Russian embassy in Sweden, raising diplomatic tensions PHOTO
The Russian Embassy in Sweden was targeted in another drone incident, with two unmanned aerial vehicles entering the embassy compound, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed.
The ministry said the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on July 2.
According to the statement, "One quadcopter dropped a container filled with red paint onto the embassy grounds. A second drone, carrying what appeared to be a mock improvised explosive device, crashed—apparently not by accident—on our premises in close proximity to the embassy building."
Moscow described the incident as an attempt to intimidate personnel at the diplomatic mission and said responsibility for preventing such attacks rests with the Swedish authorities.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said the continuation of similar incidents and any resulting consequences would be the responsibility of the Swedish side under the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The ministry also stressed that, under the convention, diplomatic missions remain inviolable even in the event of a rupture in diplomatic relations or during an armed conflict.
